Every year on November 11th, we take a moment to say thank you to the men and women who’ve served our country. But have you ever wondered how Veterans Day began?
It actually started as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month back in 1918. In 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, the name was changed to Veterans Day— a day to honor all who’ve served, in every branch and every era.
While Memorial Day honors those we’ve lost, Veterans Day celebrates those who came home, too — the ones who’ve stood guard for our freedoms, missed holidays with family, and given so much of themselves for the rest of us.
So this November 11th, whether you’re watching a parade, visiting a memorial, or simply thanking a veteran you know, take a moment to reflect on their courage and service. Gratitude goes a long way — and it’s the least we can offer to those who’ve given us so much.
Happy Veterans Day — and thank you to all who’ve served!
